Newcastle Fashion Week – What to Expect

February 22nd, 2012

Woo hoo – Newcastle Fashion Week 2012

Remember last year?  The offers, competitions, nightlife and events like Fashion In The Garden, the fab Front Row Fashion Show at my fave As you Like It and the Scott Henshall talks to name but a few!!!

This year promises to be even better – and yes, although that is what the press release says, I do actually believe it (although it’s already ripping my heart out to be there without my fab little sister starting my conversations and taking my photo’s)… Here is why it’s gonna be good….

Monday – 28 May

A lecture programme from leading designers and fashion personalities proved to be so popular last year that it is scheduled again for 2012 including fashion greats like Elizabeth Walker, the doyenne of Marie Claire magazine for over a decade, taking to the lectern on Monday 28 May.  Will have to get to this one!!!

Tuesday 29 May

Fashion Front Row Catwalk, featuring the best emerging, or newly established fashion design talent will be hosted on Tuesday 29 May at As You Like It.  Among the designers already signed up for the event are extraordinary milliner, The Libertarian, whose bespoke pieces have featured in the national press including The Times, Telegraph and on TV’s This Morning; Pixie Lott’s favourite vintage inspired jewellery and hair accessories brand, Rock n Rose and luxury lingerie from Tallulah Love as seen in Vogue.  Men won’t be left out of proceedings, thanks to Al’s Musique Boutique which offers vintage menswear and accessories.

Wednesday 30 May

Another major highlight on Wednesday 30 May will be the University of Northumbria’s Graduate Fashion Show at the Baltic, one of the leading universities for fashion design courses in the UK and a major and ever popular event in the fashion calendar.  Top industry buyers and fashion pundits from across the UK congregate on this event on the hunt for new fashion design talent.

Thursday 31 May

Fashion’s Day Out at Newcastle’s premier shopping centre, Eldon Square on Thursday 31 May, with a day dedicated to catwalks and a fast-pace catwalk crawl of the city’s best retailers showcasing the latest looks to suit all styles and budgets.

Friday 1 June

One of the highlights of Newcastle Fashion Week will be ‘Frock and Roll’ on Friday 1 June,  a star studded music and fashion event combining five live bands with five top brands in a catwalk spectacular, the only fashion and music event of its kind outside London.  An event not to be missed with top celebrity appearances and artists lined up.  This sounds like a fantastic addition to make 2012 bigger and better.  This type of event can really pull the crowds in – fashionista’s and music fans alike!

Newcastle’s Most Stylish which got people talking and voting in their hundreds last year will return this year, but this time with four X-factor style categories; most stylish group; most stylish male and female and most stylish over-30s all up for grabs.  The competition will launch at the beginning of May with voting via Newcastle Fashion Week Facebook page for the city’s most stylish with prizes galore for the winners.  Last year’s finalists won a £500 champagne shopping spree from Cruise, with a number securing modelling contracts.  There are a lot more prizes this year and the winners will be announced at a major award ceremony held during Newcastle Fashion Weekend.

And…as if all of that was enough – this year the guys at NE1 are adding Newcastle Fashion Weekend!!!

I will keep you posted on that one in a day or two!!!
