The other day I posted about the original brand from Beyonce and her mum Tina (House of Dereon) now being available at Next.
I am quite pleased that the brand is now more widely available. But for me I am not sure it’s the right one!
There are two brands from the mother and daughter duo, and although they both started out as separate and have morphed slightly, I still tend to prefer the second line simply known as Dereon.
Originally the House of Dereon line was Haute Couture style dresses – evening wear at evening wear prices (plus extortionate shipping should you be in the UK) Don’t get me wrong the dresses were absolutely gorgeous and would have been ideal to wear at events, unique and unusual and likely, in the UK, to not have anyone wearing anything similar.
From this the “Junior” line Dereon was born – I guess meant for the younger market and not meant as formal wear.
This line I love – I actually have an amazing puffa jacket and a fabulous pair of winter boots from the line and have only recently got rid of a sweater dress and top that were rather small!
The Dereon line was more urban and more reasonably priced, I could never understand why it wasn’t a huge hit in the UK. Maybe it wasn’t marketed well, maybe people were not aware of it or maybe, like me, people were put off by the shipping fee’s.
Anyway, as we stand now both of the lines have moved on from where they were originally. House of Dereon is no longer evening wear and I would not necessarily attribute it any more to the adult market (as in grown ups not porn lol) than it’s sister brand. The online store on it’s website is just coming soon but we can see from the prices in Next that it could possibly be cheaper products for what they are. The brand seems to have moved into the soft furnishings arena too.
The Dereon line now incorporates plus size clothes, shoes, handbags and eyewear. It is far more casual and, yes, does have an urban / hip hop vibe if that’s the right description. Far more wearable and affordable and I would think would have a larger market?
After purchasing from Dereon being caught by the shipping fee’s then further customs charges I have not purchased again. but I do wonder about the choice to launch the House of Dereon brand rather than the Dereon brand.
Why not launch both if they are for totally separate markets it may be a plan but from the House of Dereon lookbook the target markets are merging.
What do you think? Were you aware of either or both of the brands?
Have you bought any pieces?
Below are some of the favourite things I have spotted on the Dereon website? Which of the brands do you prefer?
